Pupil Premium
Did you know … just registering your child for Pupil Premium means that your school gets extra money?
The Government is giving money to schools to help children from lower income families do their very best. This funding is called ‘Pupil Premium’. For every child registered at Thornborough Infant School, the school receives £1,345 (23/24).
With this money we can provide additional teaching assistant time to give 1:1 and small group support to eligible pupils or purchase extra resources to support your child’s learning. If your child is registered you can also get help towards the cost of school visits, school milk, school uniform and before and after school clubs. Children year 3 and above also receive a free school meal.
Eligibility for Pupil Premium is usually dictated by family circumstances, such as income or professional status, or whether the child is in care. Currently, children who are eligible for free school meals based on their family circumstances are entitled to the Pupil Premium. This applies if they are entitled to any of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit - with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400
- Income Support (IS)
- Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance (IBJSA)
- an income–related employment and support allowance (ESA)
- Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £16,190
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of the State Pension Credit.
Register now to make sure that your child does not miss out! No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming. Please contact the school office if you would like me to see if you are eligible. If you provided your date of birth and National Insurance number on your child's admission form, we automatically check for eligibility via a secure portal and this is re-checked throughout the year.
Pupils who previously qualified for free school meals based on the eligibility criteria mentioned above, but are no longer eligible, will continue to receive Pupil Premium for the next six years.
There are also Premiums available to children of Forces Families and Looked After Children.
